Mean field theory for skewed height profiles in nonlinear growth processes

چکیده
We propose a mean field theory for interfaces growing according to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in 1+1 dimensions. The mean field equations are formulated in terms of densities at different heights, taking surface tension and the influence of the nonlinear term in the KPZ equation into account. Although spatial correlations are neglected, the mean field equations still reflect the spatial dimension-ality of the system. In the special case of Edwards-Wilkinson growth, our mean field theory correctly reproduces all features. In the presence of a nonlinear term one observes a crossover to a KPZ-like behavior with the correct dynamical exponent z = 3/2. In particular we are interested in the skewed interface profile during roughening, which is a universal function in KPZ growth processes. In addition, we study the influence of a co-moving reflecting wall, which has been discussed recently in the context of nonequilibrium wetting and synchronization transitions. Also here the mean field approximation reproduces all qualitative features of the full KPZ equation, although with different values of the surface exponents.

Monitoring Nonlinear Profiles Using Wavelets
In many manufacturing processes, the quality of a product is characterized by a non-linear relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. Using nonlinear regression for monitoring nonlinear profiles have been proposed in the literature of profile monitoring which is faced with two problems 1) the distribution of regression coefficients in small samples is unkno...
متن کاملFunctional process capability indices for nonlinear profile
A profile is a relationship between a response variable and one or more independent variables being controlled during the time. Process Capability Indices (PCI) are measured to evaluate the performance of processes in producing conforming products. Despite frequent applications of profile and a variety of available methods to monitor its different types, little researches have been carried out ...

In many industrial processes, quality of a process can be characterized as a nonlinear relation between a response variable and explanatory variables. In several articles, use of nonlinear regression is suggested for monitoring nonlinear profiles. Such regression has two disadvantages. First the distribution of the regression coefficients cannot be specified for small samples and second with in...
متن کاملGiant Molecular Cloud Formation through the Parker Instability in a Skewed Magnetic Field
The effect of the magnetic skew on the Parker instability is investigated by means of the linear stability analysis for a gravitationally stratified gas layer permeated by a horizontal magnetic field. When the magnetic field is skewed (i.e., the field line direction is a function of the height), the wavelength of the most unstable mode is λ ∼ 10H where H is the pressure scale height. The growth...
متن کاملNonlinear analysis of radially functionally graded hyperelastic cylindrical shells with axially-varying thickness and non-uniform pressure loads based on perturbation theory
In this study, nonlinear analysis for thick cylindrical pressure vessels with arbitrary variable thickness made of hyperelastic functionally graded material properties in nearly incompressible state and clamped boundary conditions under non-uniform pressure loading is presented. Thickness and pressure of the shell are considered in axial direction by arbitrary nonlinear profiles. The FG materia...
